Who's Who of Veronica Mars — N

See Fassano, Nadia
Nadine

Student at Neptune High. She has the smoldering hots for basketball hero, Wallace in 1.16 "Betty and Veronica."

-Inigo

Played by Billie Jones.
Naismith, Dr. James

Physical education professor. The original Dr. J, he invented basketball in 1891. Really! He thought it would somehow be fun to toss a ball into a hoop. Thanks to James Naismith, Wallace got himself a basketball scholarship to Hearst, so it's no surprise that he honors him in poster form in 3.01 "Welcome Wagon."

-Polter-Cow

Nalbandian, Roberto

Holder of an Argentinian passport and possible relative of noted tennis player, Robert Nalbandian. Mac discovers that he sold it on eBay and had it shipped to the local airport. He must not be reckoning much to Robert's chances at Wimbledon this year. It's a lead in the search for Duncan and Keith is so pleased, he tangos in 1.20 "M.A.D."

-Inigo

Nancy

Receptionist for Dr. Levine. She is not the most observant of creatures. Doesn't everybody check underneath the bathroom sink for a 5'-1" teen detective right before they leave the office? Apparently not, as Veronica is relieved to discover in 1.14 "Mars vs. Mars."

-wyk

Nancy #2

A name written, eventually, on a fifty dollar bill. Things Veronica Mars doesn't like: being bested by arrogant, puffed-up Tritons and being trapped on boats with her classmates. Things Veronica Mars likes: Weevil and rollercoasters. Proof that Veronica has the luck of the devil: pulling a name out of her ass just to take the wind out of the sails of her Kane Scholarship rival proved a useful tool in ensuring the senior class trip was to Magic Mountain instead of Catalina in 2.13 "Ain't No Magic Mountain High Enough."

-Inigo

Nancy #3

Logan's prison name for Omar. Was he thinking of Nancy Kerrigan? Nancy Spugget? Nancy Drew? Logan really should have thought that whole "prison nickname" thing through in 3.02 "My Big Fat Greek Rush Week."

-alliterator

Nancy #4

Famous teenage detective of books. Assistant to Keith's Carson Drew. When searching around for a companion alias, Keith can hardly be faulted for dubbing his young helper Nancy, in honor of the great Nancy Drew. That these obviously fake names deceived a pro-life busybody says much for the man's reading habits and sheltered upbringing in 3.12 "There's Got To Be A Morning After Pill."

Nastase, Ilie

Professional tennis player, who was very successful in the 1970s. When he testified in a school board meeting that Jennings Crawford is the best tennis player at Neptune High, did he really look out for a promising talent? Or is he just BFF with Jennings's parents and wanted to do them a favor? Either way, Jennings's rival Viet Nguyen is not a fan of Nastase's support in 2.01 "Normal Is the Watchword."

-grimsqueaker

Nathan

Manager of Encore of Neptune. This pompous ass finds that reading other people's diaries can have unforeseen consequences when he gets a visit from the biker boys in 1.07 "The Girl Next Door."

-Inigo
Played by Cameron Bender.
Nathan Woods

National Velvet

A horse, of course, of course. We're a little confused why Bone Hamilton thinks his daughter is a horse. But then again, we're confused by a lot of things in 1.13 "Lord of the Bling."

-Inigo

Weevil's evil on-the-run-from-the-fuzz coz. He lets Weevil take the fall for his crime and cuckolds Logan with Caitlin Ford. Chardo and Caitlin deserve each other and thankfully neither turns up again after their appearances in 1.02 "Credit Where Credit's Due."

-Inigo

Played by Wilmer Calderon.

Weevil's nan and former Echolls housekeeper. They throw her out on her ear when her grandson Chardo tampers with the Echolls's trash. Oh, and as well as playing around with Caitlin Ford, Chardo also rifles through their garbage. Grandma Navarro is a bit slow to do the right thing until she finds out Caitlin, who doesn't like her tapwater ice cubes, is involved. She then comes through for Weevil in 1.02 "Credit Where Credit's Due."

-Inigo

Played by Irene Olga Lopez.
Neal, Lester

(Johnny Cash sang it best....) Wanted man in coastal Neptune. Wanted man for murder foul. Wanted man with two grand bounty. On the poster by Lamb's scowl. Wanted man with tiny pictures. Wanted man in 2-1-1. Whenever you might see him, he's for sure in "Donut Run." Wanted man who's not been captured, wanted man still on Lamb's turf. Wanted man up on Keith's big board, 3-0-4 "Charlie Don't Surf."

Ned Applegate
See Applegate, Ned
Ned Flanders Type

Member of the jury. Hi-diddly-ho, neighbor! Unfortunately, this sweater-vest wearing man (with a moustache to rival Earl's) never utters those famous words, nor any other phrases that would actually make him similar to Ned Flanders. Stupid non-sexy, non-Flanders! All he points out is the obvious (like the victim is a convicted criminal - way to be a downer!), so perhaps he should be called Captain Obvious in 2.10 "One Angry Veronica."

-alliterator

Played by Wesley Mann.
Neko Case
See Case, Neko
Nelly

Musician. Keith catches up on the rap scene with him, Wallace wants his life to be like one of his videos, and Duncan sees him as a cheerful alternative to Radiohead and suitable for times of great tragedy. Nelly proves his versatility in 1.02 "Credit Where Credit's Due", 1.13 "Lord of the Bling", and 2.02 "Driver Ed."

Nemesis

Greek goddess of divine justice and vengeance. Considering Veronica's yen for exacting her own forms of payback on those who do wrong, the comparison is a surprisingly apt one. But then considering J.B.'s masterfully executed plan to cheat on a health test, he probably wasn't thinking in terms of Greek mythology. J.B. assigns Veronica this appellation in 2.13 "Ain't No Magic Mountain High Enough."

-public displays of lust

Nestor Greely
See Greely, Nestor
Nettles, Eddie

Pro-life activist at Good Word Press. Eddie is a strong believer in his "Constitutional right" to photograph, track down, and send anonymous packages of religious literature and surveillance photos to female patients of the Neptune Women's Clinic who went way past third base. The Marses go undercover and pay this pin-striped publisher a visit, but they had to scrub their operation when Veronica's cover story was batted down in 3.12 "There's Got To Be A Morning After Pill."

-wyk

Played by Johnny Kastl.
Nevin, Patrick Collin

Good boyfriend soon-to-be fiancé. He's Scottish (like, from Scotland!), he would like to help the starving children of the world, and he's immune to temptation scenarios. Plus, he's filthy rich. Why he wants to marry someone like Julie Bloch is beyond us. He's no Loch Nevin Monster in 2.04 "Green-Eyed Monster."

-Polter-Cow

Played by Michael E. Rodgers.
New Deputy

He is so psyched by being allowed to read Aaron Echolls his Miranda rights that not even the most powerful man in Neptune can distract him from carrying out his duty. Would that Neptune had more policemen of this calibre, it would be a cleaner, safer place! New Deputy has his shining moment in 1.22 "Leave It to Beaver."

-grimsqueaker

Played by Ben Belack.
Newmark, Craig

Website tycoon. Seeking to build a sense of community that extended to the online world, he developed a "list," of sorts, to help people advertise events. And buy and sell goods. And look for jobs. And sex. Craigslist.com, despite being a crime against apostrophes, proves quite useful in tracking down Piz's stolen guitar in 3.01 "Welcome Wagon."

-vix

News Anchor

This handsome, tie-clad newscaster smiles pretty for the camera and informs Veronica and Keith how crazy, and possibly suicidal, Abel Koontz really is in 1.06 "Return of the Kane."

-topanga

Played by Graham Sterling.
News Anchor #2

One of the newscasters for Channel 5 whose secret ambition seems to be crushing Keith Mars's spirits. A constant buzzkill, he announces Lamb's electorial victory in 2.06 "Rat Saw God," and again delivers a blow when reporting that Keith's idol Terrence Cook has been brought in for questioning in 2.12 "Rashard & Wallace Go To White Castle."

Newton, Sir Isaac

17th-century physicist, mathematician, and all-around thinker-of-thoughts. He, like, invented gravity! Whoa. Life must have sucked before he came onto the scene. Or...MAYBE...been super mega awesome! MAYBE. Logan claims to to have Newton's Second Law tattooed over his heart, which I don't doubt for a second. Sir Ike gets namechecked in 2.13 "Ain't No Magic Mountain High Enough."

Nguyen, Phuong

Harken reader and I shall tell
A tale that's bizarre and true.
Little Phuong a biker was,
Who with Hector stole some brew.
Caught he was by the evil Lamb
Who would throw him behind bars.
He was saved with some nifty work
By one V'ronica Mars.
Now you would think back he would go,
He was such a Weevil fan.
But something made him change his name
To Corazon Soliman.

Phuong is seen in 1.01 "Pilot" and his alter ego in 1.14 "Mars vs. Mars."

-Inigo

All bios: 1.14 1.01 Played by Benito Paje.
Nguyen, Viet

Neptune High student. The best tennis player of the previous school year, Viet gets in trouble when his talent threatens Jennings Crawford's ego in 2.01 "Normal Is the Watchword."

-grimsqueaker

Played by Ryan Gimbel.
Nibbler, Sith

Article writer for the Hearst Free Press and cute stalk-eyed creature from the Dark Side of the Force. We assume. Little is known about the Sith Nibblonions except they like having their bellies rubbed and they write articles about the freeze of Pell grants. Only Sith Nibbler can stop the evil Jedi brains in 3.08 "Lord of the Pi's."

Nichols, Marlena

Neptune High student and girlfriend of Kylie Marker, Marlena was the first and only one outed by the blackmailer. Mainly because the blackmailer was her girlfriend. I'm thinking that that relationship won't last very long when the truth comes out (no pun intended). Marlena is forced to let her freak flag fly in 2.14 "Versatile Toppings."

-alliterator

Played by Miriam S Korn.
Nicholson, O.

Name thrown up in a Planet Zowie/Google search for Patrick Nickerson. This person turns up in a list of names, but we already know what fate has in store for him. He will elope with a consumptive heiress and get a job as a bank teller, where, due to some shoddy procedures, he can't keep track of the money. He'll flee the country on being charged with embezzlement and explore a few banana republics in South America for a while before returning to the U.S. to face his accusers. He'll write hundreds of charming and witty short stories with surprising twists under a pseudonym. They will include at least one heartwarming Christmas tale of a couple's sacrifices to love, a caution to every potential kidnapper of ten-year-old brats, and a redemption fable revolving around the difficulty in getting arrested. A history revealed in Google, if not in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-Inigo

Nick

Rock god of XLR8 and inspiration for a removed tattoo. Heidi's rocking ex-boyfriend appears to defy the stereotype of loud, crass, insensitive groupie-groper that is so often the case with rocker ex-boyfriends. Ahem. Not that we have any experience with that. Nick has an injured mother and gets his girlfriend back in 2.15 "The Quick and the Wed."

-funky-donut

Played by Brad Ashten.

Nickerson, Jeremy

Name appearing on a Google search for Patrick Nickerson. Jeremy is Erica Patrick's boyfriend, and they ran the Matthew Weiner Memorial 5K Road Race together. Another of the Nickerson clan (yes, of the Marietta Nickersons), Jeremy enjoys practical welding and cyber karate, and he collects airsickness bags. Life has been very good to him, and we're glad to see him give back in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-starxdsparrow

Nickerson, Joshua

A runner in a runners club, according to Planet Zowie/Google. From what does he run? Veronica is the one looking, so let's imagine the interrogation:

VERONICA: How long have you been running?
JOSHUA: About three or four seasons.
VERONICA: Let me see your identification.
JOSHUA: You don't need to see my identification.
VERONICA: I don't need to see your identification.
JOSHUA: I am not the one you're looking for.
VERONICA: You are not the one I'm looking for.
JOSHUA: I can go about my business.
VERONICA: You can go about your business.
JOSHUA: Move along.
VERONICA: Move along. Move along.

The Force is with the jogger who escapes Veronica's scrutiny in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-Inigo

Nickerson, Patrick

Dishonest student at Hearst. Using his access to the machines produced by his father's company, Patrick, together with his Aspen-bound buddies, fixes it so none of them have to pay for anything at Hearst ever again. It would have worked too but for a lack of imagination on aliases, an observant cashier and a newly qualified detective. Nickerson is everything Veronica Mars hates — rich, in possession of an inflated sense of entitlement, arrogant, lacking a work ethic, dismissive of Mexican kids from the poor side of town, pretty blonde at his side...hmm, why does this sound sort of familiar? Logan Patrick is crushed by Veronica's indignation in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-Inigo

Played by Travis Van Winkle.
Nickerson Sr., Patrick

CEO of Magneta-Corp, based in Marietta, Georgia. Not only does his company supply the machines that make the student I.D. cards, he has bestowed $20 $10 $20 million on his former Alma mater. "My own time at Hearst was a fundamental part of my education and played an integral part in forming the man I am today," he proclaims to a journalist in his local paper — one who doesn't know that $4 million a year over five years equals $20 mil. According to the article, no conditions were set on the donation, but that might change if Hearst decide to kick the fruit of his loins out of school after his ID card fraud in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-Inigo

Nickerson, Richard Fields

One of the Nickersons whose name is revealed in an Internet search. He took his bar exam in August 2005, at a tender age, and we know why. It's bad enough for one's parents to name one after a soap opera character, but that extra push to succeed young comes from one being named after Richard Fields, a rapist of a fourteen-year-old and subsequent assaulter of her seven-year-old daughter. "Hey, guys, guess what? On behalf of all my children to be and myself, I'm gonna sue your ass!" What we wouldn't give to see this played out in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-Inigo

Nickerson, Ryan

Name appearing on a Google search for Patrick Nickerson. Apparently, someone is spreading the Nickerson population all over Marietta, Georgia. The Marietta Telegraph reports that Ryan competed in the Utisdale Cross Country Invitational in honor of his close "friend," Patrick Tartuffe. We never thought Nancy Drew's boyfriend, Ned Nickerson, was much of a stud, but apparently his kin have a whole page in the telephone book devoted to them. We now know more than we ever cared to know about Ned and his brood thanks to 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

-starxdsparrow

Nicki

The Madame's bitch. She bows to the threat of a lively game of connect-the-bruises on her face to bring Fiona Chelsea Wendy out of hiding from her and Max's Logan and Veronica's den of love. Much to everyone's chagrin — since it leads to Max being $10,000 poorer and everyone being slightly heartbroken — the bruises rub off on a bag of frozen peas in 3.11 "Poughkeepsie, Tramps and Thieves."

-fulfilled

Played by Laura Roth.
Nickols, Laura Mickon

Random name that came up on a seach for Patrick Nickerson. Middle name: Mickon? Really? Is that a misprint and she's really some familial offshoot of a camera-making conglomerate? And N-I-C-K-O-L-S? Granted, there are a few, but usually it's Nichols. The nick-obsessed team add another odd spelling to their repertoire in 3.19 "Weevils Wobble But They Don't Go Down."

Nietzsche, Friedrich

A famous German philosopher who said, "God is dead." Okay, since he was German, he probably said, "Gott ist tot." At least he didn't say, "Ein minuten bitte! Ich habe eine kleinen problemo avec diese religione!" God's probably up there right now saying, "Nietzsche is dead" in 2.16 "The Rapes of Graff" and Veronica misattributes the phrase "Knowledge is power" to him (Francis Bacon said it!) in 3.02 "My Big Fat Greek Rush Week."

Night Ranger

San Francisco rock band best known for the 1984 hit "Sister Christian." Formed in 1967 but hitting their stride in the '80s, this hair-metal band fit right in with Poison, Bon Jovi, and Guns N' Roses. Unfortunately, they didn't have the same staying power, even though Batando is clearly a big fan in 3.15 "Papa's Cabin."

-tallow

nightman122

The AOL screen name of the manager of the Palm Tree Lodge Motel in Waverley, California. Nightman122 searches the net for knotty schoolgirls as the money rolls right in at $30 a room. He and his motel are sleazy and seedy - albeit one of the rooms can double as a funny little downtown art gallery - and at least his name isn't Norman. Cold comfort for Amelia DeLongpre (Ha!) in 2.06 "Rat Saw God."

-Inigo

Ninja Turtle

A hero in a half-shell. Which one is Veronica's favorite: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael? Veronica says "Turtle power!" (well, not really) in 2.07 "Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner."

Nip/Schmuck

Logan's nickname for the good doctor Tom Griffith. Oy gevalt! First the shikseh calls him a mensch, and next this meshuggeneh child is making new words half from TV Guide and half from the shtetl. You want I should plotz? It's too much for my heart, bubbeleh. Logan kvetches in 2.08 "Ahoy, Mateys!"

Nixon, Richard "Tricky Dick"

Former POTUS. One of the robbers, in a nod to Point Break, wears a mask of him. The real Tricky Dick's famous line was "I am not a crook," but the man in the ironed mask cannot say the same in 3.05 "President Evil," although after getting caught, he may want to relieve the stress by bowling, as Nixon is purported to have done in 3.06 "Hi, Infidelity."

No Trigger

Punk band from Massachusetts. One might be forgiven for thinking that their posters give one the momentary illusion of Tigger's evil cousin, what with all the orange and black cartoonyness going on, but they are indeed a real, live working hardcore punk band. You know they're hardcore by a visit to their website, which declares, "THIS SITE IS FUCKED and we are too poor to get it fixed. Please visit our myspace." Due no doubt to the insistence of the CW's S&P folk, in the Hearst College Radio station that's not the poster that's on the wall in 3.06 "Hi, Infidelity."

-Inigo

Noam Chomsky
See Chomsky, Noam
Noir Secrets, Mr.

Identity unknown. Er, that's why he's Mr. Noir Secrets. If we knew anything about him, he'd be called Mr. RomCom Open Book. For now, all we have to go on is that Veronica calls Keith by this secret code name in 3.06 "Hi, Infidelity."

-Polter-Cow

Nordhouse, Claire

Norman

Wallace's straight-A, eagle scout, mama's boy, imaginary friend. Wallace created him to fool Alicia when he wants to be fooling around with Veronica. Seriously, dude, could it be any contest? Veronica learns about Norman in 1.08 "Like a Virgin."

Nurse

Hospital staff member stitching up Duncan Kane. This angel of mercy mistakes Veronica for Duncan's girlfriend, proving that shippers turn up in the strangest places. Nurse plays Cupid in 1.03 "Meet John Smith."

-grimsqueaker

Played by Cassie Benavidez.
Nut Case

A name on the Pi Sigma scoreboard. Like a lot of things in Veronica Mars, there are several subtle meanings to this name - the obvious meaning being, of course, a crazy person. But then there is the underlying meaning of a case of nuts — perhaps a clue of some sort, pointing Veronica in a whole new direction. On the other hand, if Veronica ever investigates a case involving squirrels, it truly will be a nut case. When asked if he wants a banana with nuts, this guy probably giggles in 2.16 "The Rapes of Graff."
