Josh Barry

"You believe me, don't you?"
"At Mars Investigations, believing our clients is just one of the many services we offer. Is there anything I can get you?"
"Ah, I don't know. Something to read, cookies, peanut butter if possible, a hacksaw."

Josh Barry is the All-Conference small forward for Hearst's basketball team and the suspected murderer of the team's head coach/his dad. Despite his claims of innocence and his family hiring Mars Investigations to track down the real killer, Lamb has him arrested and throws him in a cell with a town drunk. He asks Veronica to make him some peanut butter cookies, knowing that if he eats them, he has a chance to escape after an allergic reaction to the peanuts. After locking the wrong guy in the trunk of his own car, Josh convinces Veronica to make him a fake ID so he can get his inheritance out of a safe deposit box. Along with the valuable coin collection, he finds a videotaped message left for him by his father, which Josh was supposed to have seen after he turned 21. Suffering from a terminal disease, Coach Barry admits that he was responsible for his own death because he didn't want to leave his family destitute. By staging his death in the way he did, the double-indemnity clause of the insurance policy was invoked. After viewing this last message from his father, Josh becomes the man of his family by, ironically, leaving his family. He takes off for Mexico, planning to wait out the claim's statute of limitations. His father would be proud.
